DOŠLI U GRAČIŠĆE, srednjevjekovni gradić staroga porijekla, uzbudljive
povijesti, stare kulture i mirne današnjice. Gračišće je ljudima pružalo
utočište i krov nad glavom još u vremenima prije procvata Rimskom carstva.
Ime Gallignana prije 2000. godina dali su mu drevni Gali, a Slaveni su ga po
svom doseljavanju u Istru u 6. i 7. stoljeću, nazvali Gračišće. U pisanim
spomenicima Gračišće se prvi put spominje 1199. godine, a tijekom srednjeg
vijeka ovdje je bila razvijena "komunska uprava" na čelu sa županom,
sucima i starcima-savjetnicima. Tragovi tih vremena vidljivi su i danas.
Sačuvana srednjevjekovna urbana struktura i brojni kulturno-povijesni spomenici
razlozi su zbog kojih je Gračišće u cijelini podvrgnuto zakonskoj zaštiti.

flourished Gračišće offered people shelter and a home. The name Gallignana
dates back 2000 years from the times of the Gauls, whereas the Slavs after
settling in Istria in the 6th and 7th century named
it Gračišće. In written historic sources Gračišće is mentioned for the
first time in 1199, while in the Middle Ages it had its "communal
administration" headed by discrict-prefect, judges and
advisers-elderly men. The traces of these times visible even today. The
preserved medieval urban structure and numerous cultural and historical
monuments are the reason why Gračišće has gained a status of protected site.
